Adding Texture Paste to Patterned Paper

I know texture paste products are not the latest, greatest product, however, I am just now really starting to find a love for them. When they first made an appearance on the cardmaking/crafting scene I didn’t really love them. I bought a jar of texture paste, used it a few times and then it sat in my craft room until it hardened beyond use. I used the Tim Holtz texture paste in white at first and while a lot of people really love it, it wasn’t for me. Anytime I used it it would always end up cracking on me. So I put it aside out of frustration and pretty much forgot about it.

Skip forward a year and I received the Two Paper Diva’s stamp set, “Yes to Sprinkles”. I knew I wanted to used a die set I had to create a realistic cupcake shaped card and I did (You can see the post and video tutorial HERE) all thanks to a product I picked up on a whim off the clearance shelf at Michaels. I found the Faber Castelle Whipped Spackle so much easier to use and I am now loving playing with this new to me product. Yes I know I’m a little late to the texture game but that happens alot with me!

So today I have a video tutorial on how I used the whipped spackle to add some texture to patterned paper. I hope you enjoy it!

To start off I needed to get the whipped spackle on in order to give it time to dry. I cut a piece of patterned paper down to an A2 card front size (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) . Using a circle mask (basically circle stencil) and a palette knife I applied the whipped spackle over the paper. I wasn’t perfect and wanted more of a messy, unfinished look. Before setting this aside to dry, I applied some Rock Candy Distress Glitter to the spackle.

I also did a bit of emboss resist with watercolor on this card, which also needed time to dry, so it was my next step. I first embossed the brand new “Dream Big” sentiment from two paper divas onto a piece of watercolor paper. I embossed in clear detail embossing powder and heat set. I then applied a wash of watercolor of the sentiment using Evergreen Bough Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls to give it a little shine.

While I waited for everything to dry, I dry embossed a piece of coral cardstock with a wood grain embossing folder. This would become a mat for my sentiment. I applied the sentiment onto the coral piece of cardstock with double sided adhesive. I also used the same adhesive to attached my patterned paper to an A2 white, top folding card base.

Before adhering my matted sentiment onto the patterned paper, I laid down a messy nest of white string and then put my mat and sentiment on top. I did pop up the sentiment and mat with a bit of fun foam. Also, I squirted a bit of glossy accents behind my mat to help it adhere better to the whipped spackle.
