I really love shaker cards, but I have a hard time making them fit my style and not just end up looking like I dropped a package of sequins on my card. LOL! So as I was looking through my stamp sets the other day, I found an old Sizzix stamp and die set that I bought forever ago and decided to pull it out and make a clean and simple shaker card. Starting with a 4″ x 5.25″ white card stock panel I die cut the jar right in the center. I then die cut the same jar on a piece of fun foam. **I like to use fun foam instead of foam tape for convenience and price** While I had my die cutting machine out I also cut out A LOT of jelly beans. I used the four jelly bean dies in the set to cut eight beans from five different colors of paper that I pulled from my stash. All of my papers were pastel colors. I also die cut a banner from the pastel green card stock I had chosen. Finally, I cut the lid for the jar from some gray card stock. I also needed a piece of clear plastic to hold all of my jelly beans in, so I cut a large rectangle from a heavy duty page protector.
With all of my pieces cut it was time to start putting everything together. I first started by adhering the fun foam with the jar cut out of the center onto the white panel, making sure to line up both die cuts so no fun foam was showing through the opening. I then put down more adhesive on the back of the fun foam, removed the backing and then started to put in all of the jelly bean die cuts, making sure to be quite random with the colors. **A little tip: A little dusting with your embossing bag will cut down on any static** Once all of my beans were in place I put a scrap piece of white card stock over the back of the jar to close it off. I did this so I would be able to flip it over and align it right in the center of the card base and no guess work would be involved. I then adhered the jar lid with double sided adhesive.
For the final touches I added the sentiment “You’re So Sweet” from the stamp set onto the green banner using black dye ink. My final step to complete the card was to simply attach the banner in the center of the jar with foam tape.
In card making fads, like shaker cards, come and go and it is quite fun to hop on the bandwagon. The important thing is to make them your own and fit into your style. Whether your style is clean and simple, vintage, etc. I hope you too will make a shaker card and make it your own!

What adhesive do you use on your fun foam? I’ve tried this with fun foam and just with foam adhesive and I always seem to get the sequins sticking to the edge of the window.

I use double sided tape adhesive from icraft. It works really well! Also running your embossing bag along the edges before putting in your sequins helps!
