Let’s Make a Card

Craftin’ Desert Divas is having a great monthly challenge over on social media. Basically, at the beginning of every month a “mood board” is posted and has several inspiration pictures. All you need to do is create a card, using CDD products, inspired by the photos on the mood board. Then, you just upload a photo of your card into the photo album on the CDD Facebook Group. Also, make sure to post it to your favorite social media platform using the #cddmontly in the description so we can find you and show you some crafty love! Here is a link to the Facebook Group, so you can join in on all the fun and check out the official rules for the challenge in the Files tab!  Today I am sharing a video on creating my first card for this month’s challenge. Make sure to check it out below to see how I interpreted this month’s mood board!

ENJOY!

First, I needed to cut out a panel from white card stock using the largest rectangle die in the Crazy Stitched Frames die set from CDD. For my stamping I used the owl and tree from the Build a Scene stamp set. I first stamped the owl in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then masked him off with a mask created from Inkadinkado masking paper. Next, I stamped the tree to make it appear as if the owl was sitting in the tree. After masking the tree, the edges of the panel with painter’s tape and a hilly border with scrap paper, I brought out my Distress Inks.

Using Distress Inks and a mini ink blending tool I started blending on a sunset sky. I was inspired by the mood board photos, so I used some Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, and a bit of Black Soot. When I was happy with the sky I pulled up the hilly border mask and added a tiny bit of Peacock Feathers to give the appearance of snowy hills. With my inking done, I removed the masks and started coloring in my images with my alcohol markers. I kept the coloring very simple, but did add white “snow” on top of the branches and along the snow mounds on the ground with a white gel pen. I also used a purple and hot pink alcohol markers to add shading around the outside of the tree.

With my coloring finished  pulled out the “Simply Said” sentiment set from CDD and stamped “thanks” in the bottom right hand corner on the panel with black dye ink. Then, it was time to start putting the card together and that only took a few steps. I first adhered the panel onto an A2 card base  with fun foam and double sided adhesive. Finally, I popped on a few sequins from the Pizazz sequin mix (also from CDD) using glossy accents to adhere and my Quickstik tool to speed up the process.
