Inlaid Die Cutting in a Die Cut

Last month, during the Inspired by Stamping Release, I made this shaker card. During any new release things are incredibly busy. Often, I share more than one card to show you multiple ways to use new stamp sets and dies, but I don’t want to share more than one video a day. I think that would be a bit too much! So I am going to share the details on how I created this fun shaker card using a inlaid die cut in a die cut technique!

ENJOY!!

Starting with a white card stock panel that measured 4″ x 5.25″, I die cut a circle from the center. I measured the circle against the “Love” die that I would be using later on and made sure it was just slightly smaller than it. While I had my die machine out I also die cut a larger circle from the center of a piece of fun foam that was cut to slightly smaller than the card stock panel and the Love die from black card stock. I also laid the Love die over the circle die cut to cut just the tip and end of the arrow into the circle cut.

Next, I needed to stamp the remaining portion of my sentiment before putting together the shaker. Above the circle die cut I used the “Love Sentiments” stamp set from Inspired by Stamping to stamp “I” in black dye ink. Below the circle die cut I stamped “You”. Now, it was time to put the shaker together! After adhering a piece of acetate over the circle opening I laid down the fun foam making sure none was peeking through the front of the panel. At this point I also put down adhesive on the back side of the fun foam and removed the backing paper for easy placement. After filling the shaker with the brand new Valentine’s Sequins, I used my grid mat to lay down an A2 top folding card base onto the panel for perfect placement!

To finish off the card, I used multi medium matte to inlay the black Love die cut into the tip and ending cuts I had made into the circle. This gives the appearance of one piece, but in reality there was no partial die cutting involved! Finally, on the inside of the card I used the same black dye ink to stamp the word “more”, again from the Love Sentiments stamp set. I also added a few hearts stamped in red around the sentiment inside!  I love doing cheeky sentiments like this, and it being on the inside is a total bonus!

I hope some of you try this technique as well, and if you do I would love to see it! This is such an easy technique that allows for more interest and less bulk, and you don’t have the hassle of doing any partial die cutting!
