Let’s Mask a Scene

As you may know, Craftin’ Desert Divas Release Week has been going strong for quite a few days now and we are finally winding down! All of the products are now in the shop for purchase and I must say that I love each and every one of the new stamp and die sets! Also, two new sequin mixes were introduced and they are GORGEOUS!! If you haven’t seen any of the new release items, be sure to head over to the Craftin’ Desert Divas Shop and take a peek!! Today, for my last project for the release, I wanted to use the brand new Treasure Trolls stamp set along with the Build a Scene stamp set (one of my all time favorites!) to create a really fun forest scene!! You can watch the video tutorial below to see exactly how I put this card together and hear a few tips and tricks I like to use when masking a complicated scene!!

ENJOY!!

I wanted my entire scene to completely fill a card front so I began with a 4 1/4″ x  5 1/2″ piece of white card stock in my MISTI. Using Memento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink (use a black ink that corresponds with your coloring medium) I started stamping and masking my scene. Whenever I build a complicated scene with a lot of masking I like to stamp out a “map” first. Watch the video above for more information on that!

After building up my scene and removing all the masks, it was time to color! I used my prismacolor pencils and blending them with Gamsol and my blending stumps. I made sure to use different shades of green for all the green images that were in my scene, so I didn’t end up with a huge one tone, one shade green blob on my card front. Coloring in these trolls is such a blast! You can make them any color or combination you want to! If you’re having trouble, a quick google search will give you plenty of ideas!!

For the sentiment on my card I decided to stamp onto vellum with a black dye ink. Using the “Wishful Thoughts” stamp set, I built up a birthday sentiment and stamped it onto the vellum strip using my MISTI. To attach the vellum strip, I wrapped the ends around the colored panel and secured them to the back with double sided adhesive. I then attached the colored panel onto an A2 top folding white card base and adhered a few of the brand new Glimmering Gemstones Sequins and also layered a few to give even more shine! I used glossy accents and my Quickstik Tool to adhere these to the card front.

Masking scenes is one of my favorite things to do and I hope you picked up a few tips and tricks that I like to use when creating my scenes! The brand new Treasure Trolls set that I used today is awesome for creating scenes and I have a few more cards coming where I create even more scenes!! Also, if you haven’t went and taken a peek at all the new goodies that have been added to the CDD Shop yet, make sure you head over and check them out! If you’re into making and building scenes on your card front as much as I am, you will definitely want to check out the new Scene Builders die set as well!!
