Stamping with Dies

It has been a whirlwind of a New Release from Craftin Desert Divas! I hope you all loved all of the products as much as I did! Yesterday, all of the products were added to the shop and are now available for purchase, so today, I wanted to share a card with you where I actually use the die cuts for stamping. And you can use this technique with any of the CDD dies as well, so there are a ton of ideas I have for this technique! Today, I used the newly released Buildings Dies as stamps along with the newly released Caped Crusaders Stamp Set so I could create a one layer scene card. Watch the video tutorial below for all of the details!!

ENJOY!!

Starting on an A2 sized white card stock panel, I first stamped the Cat Woman from the Caped Crusaders Stamp Set in the bottom left hand corner using Memento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink. Then, I masked off that stamped image and also everything above an inch from the bottom of the panel. Using my mini ink blending tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, I inked up everything below that mask pretty heavily to create a ground. Next, I removed the painter’s tape mask and moved it to cover the ground and also my sky area with about a 2.5″ opening.

Using the Buildings Dies from Craftin Desert Divas and my Big Kick, I cut the dies from fun foam. Any kind of fun foam will work, but for this technique I do like the thicker stuff that I buy from online (I will leave a link below), but the thinner material that you can buy from the craft store will work just as well, you may just need to switch out your “stamps” a little more often. Using one of the smaller window cutouts which is essentially a tiny rectangle, and Rusty Hinge Distress Ink, I repeatedly stamped it over and over to create a brick pattern. I then used Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge Distress Inks along with the mini ink blending tool to add color not only to intensify the bricks but also add color in between each one as well. To add even more interest and fun to this brick wall, I used several of the I love you type sentiment from the Simply Said Stamp Set, along with black dye ink, to add some graffiti to the wall.

After finishing off the wall, I masked it off and got to work stamping the buildings. First, I had to cut off the stitching as the stamp will pick that up. Then, I adhered each building die cut to an acrylic block and loaded up the foam with black dye ink. After testing, I stamped each building above the wall to fill in the rest of the scene. Finally, I used the window inserts with Mustard Seed Distress Ink to fill in the window areas. To finish this card off the only thing left to do was remove all of the masks, color in my Cat Woman stamped image with colored pencils and OMS, and adhere the entire panel onto an A2 top folding card base with double sided adhesive.

If you didn’t watch the video tutorial above, I highly recommend it for all the tips and tricks included. This is a great technique to use with any die set to really stretch the use of your dies and get the most bang for your buck, which is always a plus! Your imagination is truly the limit with this technique!
