3 Quick & Easy Backgrounds with Coloring Techniques

I love making backgrounds or, essentially, my own patterned paper for my cards as a quick and easy card design. But I like to go outside of just plain black and white backgrounds and find quick ways to color my backgrounds so I’m not limited in my choice of stamps. It’s so easy to customize these backgrounds to fit the recipient or occassion and they take just minutes! Today I want to share with you three quick colored backgrounds and the techniques I used to color them in with.

Some supplies used today were sent to me free of charge for design purposes. I only design for companies I love and stand behind 100%! You can find what companies I currently and have previously design for HERE.

For my first card I pulled out some of the new stamps from Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps and they are adorable! I started by stamping the background with black ink and using the Bananas stamp. I then found a circle die that was close to or a little larger than the stamped image and die cut a quick mask. Using an ink blending tool and yellow ink I overlaid the mask on top of the bananas and colored in each circle. I love using this technique for quick colored backgrounds!!

Something I like to do is layer simple backgrounds for more interest. I did that on this card with a Banana word stamp and stamped it at an angle for even more fun! The last added touch to this card was a Minion stamp and a quick sentiment!!

My second card could be made much like the first, but using a rectangle die, however this was such an easy mask to cut I decided to make my own! I quickly stamped the background, again in black ink and stamped an extra image onto a piece of scrap paper. I quicky cut out the image with my craft knife making sure to keep the outside area in tact. I overlaid that hand cut mask and ink blended each letter that I had stamped. All I had to do was quickly color in the seals to finish off the background!

Again, I layered up a few more images on top of the background. I couldn’t resist coloring and using that little owl!! I also went with a more distressed look and ink blended all of the edges!!

My final card is by far the easiest! I used a solid grass stamp and doubled it up to create a fun fringe background! Something I love to do is try and find creative ways to use stamps I already have on hand and make them appear as something completely different! Solid stamps are super easy to use to create quick backgrounds so take a look at what you have on hand and see if you can find any fun and interesting ways to use them!

I went super simple in finishing this card. I added a simple happy birthday sentiment and a quick mess of string behind it. Super quick and easy!!

These cards were all so easy to make! I will be listing and linking the stamps and supplies I used on my cards today. So if you are interested in any of them, you can find them all down below!
